Senior Living in Backyard, Looking to Acquire Reverse Mortgage
Wednesday, 28 July 2010 18:32
62 year old, John Wuerffel, has taken to residing in his front driveway and backyard, after officials declared his home uninhabitable due to unpaid utilities. Neighbors and officials are seeking relief from the clutter that has grown outside of his home, which he still owns, as he resides outside now.
On August 27, there will be a hearing concerning the court order that requests permissions for village workers to clean the property themselves. Publis Health Officer, Mary Passaglia hopes that Wuerffel will do the cleaning himself, since more help will simply enable him to continue living the way he does.
Wuerrfel is a Vietnam veteran, suffering from illnesses, which have plagued his wallet with medication expenses. In addition to the $1400-$1500 that he owes in utilities, he owes another $9600 before his home is paid off. He said he is working on a reverse mortgage that could help him back into his house by September. Wuerrfel falls into the eligible category, but cannot get a reverse mortgage unless he shows more effort in the maintenance of his property.
