Aiming to enhance and expand its successful industry positioning, Specialized Loan Servicing LLC (SLS), has hired Oscar Southall as Senior Vice President of Default Operations, a key leadership position carrying a mandate to manage and expand the company’s distinctive operations. The SLS selection of Southall was facilitated by the industry leading executive search expert R. T. Glass & Associates, which conducted the search.
Southall joins SLS after nearly a decade of executive responsibilities at Litton Loan Servicing, including most recently the position of Vice President, Default Administration, responsible for foreclosure collections, loss mitigation and charge off collections in the firm’s Houston, Dallas and Atlanta centers.
At Litton, Southall directed a management team that reduced delinquency levels in several critical areas, developing and implementing targeted loss mitigation strategies. He was responsible for all short sales and deeds-in-lieu for the entire servicing portfolio and had responsibility for overseeing day-to-day operations, including investor and vendor management, staffing and employee compensation.
Speaking of Southall’s selection for the key company position, Ali Haralson, COO and founding member of Specialized Loan Servicing, said: “Oscar’s technology and default management experience is both wide-ranging and detail-oriented and he has an entrepreneurial spirit that makes this a particularly good company match for us at this time.” Her latter reference is to an expansion at SLS the past nine months that has featured the addition of 150 new employees and $8 billion in servicing UPB. In the next 6 to 12 months, Haralson anticipates continued growth within the organization, noting that: “Oscar is a critical part of our future plans.”
On the ground floor at an instrumental time
Southall said of the new assignment: “This is an exciting opportunity for me personally to be in on the ground floor at an instrumental time in the organization. I am especially impressed by the company’s willingness to make changes that will enable us to take advantage of a changing market. There is a lot of flexibility in the ranks and a very dynamic leadership structure.”
He added: “I am looking forward to helping grow the company, much as we did at Litton. When I started there, we had 70,000 loans; I was the 200th employee hired. Over the next 10 years, we grew to 400,000 loans and 1,900 people. I was part of that growth and know what it takes for a firm to mature properly.”
Both company and new executive praised the involvement of Glass and Associates. “If you’re looking for someone to hire at an executive level, Rick is one of the few people you should talk to. He is easy to work with and very knowledgeable,” said Southall. Haralson echoed the praise. “I’ve known Rick a number of years and his expertise at the executive recruiting level is critical. We’ve worked with other firms, but he brings to the table a unique depth of understanding and strong client pool.”
For his part, Glass commented that “there is a significant amount of activity and interest in this space, smart business leaders know the importance of effectively sourcing and selecting the right talent to succeed in today’s complex and competitive business world and delivering that caliber of talent is, in itself, a specialty practice.”
